jayson williams sentence

Former NBA star Jayson Williams was sentenced to five years in prison Tuesday for fatally shooting a hired limo driver,Costas Christofi in 2002, ending an eight-year legal odyssey by tearfully apologizing to the victim's family. He will be eligible for parole in 18 months.

During the hearing, Christofi's sister held up a photo of him, while a rep for the family stood up and said Jayson had never apologized to the family for killing Christofi. The rep begged the judge to make Jayson serve all five years in prison without probation.

Jayson eventually stood up, teary-eyed, and apologized to them ... along with his own family, church and the NBA.

Williams, who turned 42 on Monday, played nine seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Nets before a leg injury forced him to retire in 2000. He was in the second year of a six-year, $86 million contract.

nastia liukin and evan lysacek

Is Nastia Liukin Evan Lysacek's girlfriend? It certainly sounded like it this morning, when People reported that the newly crowned men's figure skating gold medalist was dating Liukin, a gymnast and fellow gold medal winner.

The couple met in October 2008 in Rapid City, S.D., performing on the NBC special Skating & Gymnastics Spectacular and have dated since last summer.

"We became good friends and became really close since," says Lysacek, who attended the ESPYs with Nastia last July and things progressed from there.

However, last weekend Lysacek, who won a figure skating gold medal on Thursday, said something very different. "I'm single," he told ET. "I haven't had any time for dating while I'm training. I'm lonely."

Nastia was born on October 30, 1989 in Moscow, Russia. Her parents are Valeri And Anna Liukin, both of whom are former gymnasts and coaches. Nastia and her parents moved to the U.S when she was just two years old and she now lives in Parker, Texas.

Is it possible that feelings between the two gold medalists aren't mutual? A scan of their twitter pages reveals that the blonde gymnast has tweeted to Lysacek no less than seven times since the Vancouver Olympics began -- while the figure skater has mentioned her just once.

bode miller wins gold

Bode Miller became the face of the U.S. Olympic Team in Vancouver Sunday with a comeback performance in the men's Super Combined that will be replayed in Olympic highlights for years to come.

He won his first Olympic Gold medal in the Men's Super Combined with a combined (slalom and downhill) time of 2:44.92. Ivica Kostelic of Croatia won the Silver medal with a time of 2:45.25 and Silvan Zurbriggen of Switzerland earned Bronze.

"When I passed the line, I did my normal thing and stood for a second and I was like 'That was unbelievable, I can't ask for anything more,'" Miller said. "For my first Olympic gold, it was absolutely perfect."

As the crowd of more than 6,000 screamed for him, Mr. Miller waved his poles and basked in adoration that no one would have expected four years ago after the Turin Games. Then he was the angry, bad-boy of Team U.S.A., who criticized Olympic commercialism and boasted of his partying before races.

Also racing for the U.S., Ted Ligety was 5th, Will Brandenburg came in 10th, and Andrew Weibrecht was 11th. Norway's Aksel Svindal, winner of the Gold in the Super G, did not finish.

benny hinn divorce

The wife of televangelist Benny Hinn has filed for divorce from the high-profile pastor, whose reputation as an advocate of prosperity gospel has attracted millions of followers and criticism from lawmakers and watchdog groups over his lavish lifestyle.

Suzanne Hinn filed the papers in Orange County Superior Court on Feb. 1, citing irreconcilable differences, after more than 30 years of marriage. The papers note the two separated on Jan. 26 and that Hinn has been living in Dana Point, a wealthy coastal community in southern Orange County.
Hinn is a televangelist and hosts a daily show for Trinity Broadcast Network and some other networks. He also has attracted the criticism from the Senator Charles Grassley, an Iowa Republican on the Senate Banking Committee.

An investigation has been launched by the Charles Grassley for his lavish lifestyle and the money he raised and he is among the 6 televangelists who are under investigation by Sen. Charles Grassley. He said on his website that he spent 88 % of the collected money on his Ministry in 2008 and his compliance with IRS regulations is also ensured by the external auditors.

chris golightly disqualified

"American Idol" contestant Chris Golightly has been disqualified from the Top 24 only to be replaced by Tim Urban at the last minute.

But the question is,was Chris Golightly disqualified from the Top 24 of "American Idol" due to an old contract?

According to fellow Hollywood Week contestant Samantha Musa, the answer is yes. Samantha auditioned in Los Angeles and received a Golden Ticket, but we never saw her on the air.

Chris' disqualification becomes a big issue since Michael Lynche is allowed to stay although he also broke a rule when his father told local paper that Michael is in the Top 24 before the show went on air.

"He is upset cause he says it was a misunderstanding, yet they let Michael Lynch stay in the top 24 even though he broke contract when his family spilled the news about idol to the papers," Samantha said. "So really, it's pretty messed up that they pick and choose which 'Breach' to ignore and which to use as grounds for disqualification!"

The latest report said Chris had a management contract that expired in June last year. Producers kicked him out simply because he did not tell them about the contract.

vonn wins gold

Lindsey Vonn had high hopes for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and today wins Gold in the Ladies' downhill competition. Vonn found her gold medal reward on her first women's downhill run today, taking the gold medal along with USA teammate Julia Mancuso.

After several weather delays at Cyprus Mountain training picked up and Lindsey came out as the one to beat. However during the semi-final run, Lindsey Jacobellis "landed front foot on her binding making it super swirly," and by the time she she recovered she had already gone through the panels, disqualifying her again from competition.

“I dreamed about what this would feel like but it is much better in real life,” the 25-year-old Vonn said in a media conference of her gold medal win. “I got what I came here for -- a gold medal. I have what I want and I’ll just keep fighting every day.”

From today until next Friday, February 26, Vonn will take on four additional races in her quest for five gold medals on her neck. For more information, stay subscribed to up-to-date alerts here!

bill clinton hospitalized after chest pain

President Bill Clinton was admitted to a hospital in NY today after experiencing chest pain.

Clinton, 63, was hospitalized at the Columbia campus of New York-Presbyterian Hospital after experiencing "discomfort in his chest," according to Douglas Band, counselor to the former president.

Following a visit to his cardiologist, he underwent a procedure to place 2 stents in one of his coronary arteries.

Clinton is expected to recover and "continue to focus on the work of his foundation and Haiti’s relief and recovery efforts,” his office said in a statement.

Clinton had quadruple coronary artery bypass surgery in 2004 and later developed rare complications affecting his lungs that required another operation.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton learned of her husband’s condition after concluding a meeting with President Barack Obama in the Oval Office.
