ANDERSON WOMAN HIT WITH MURDER CHARGES AFTER KILLING A 22 YEAR OLD

The Anderson County Sheriff's Office has charged a woman with murder for a shooting death in late March. Deputies responded to the Oak Place apartment community in reference to a home invasion and a shooting that left one dead. Janice M. Hampton, 43, of Anderson has been charged with murder in the death of 22-year old Kendrick McDowell on March 30. ACSO investigators announced more additional charges Thursday.

Jawanna Smith has been also charged with accessory before the fact of a felony. Charlie Boseman with the Anderson County Coroner’s office says McDowell was shot at Oakplace Apartments off of Duvall Way. After McDowell was visiting the apt complex when he was shot then taken to the hospital in a personal vehicle.

When he arrived at the hospital he was pronounced dead Preston Smith has been charged with assault and battery 1st degree and accessory before the fact of a felony. All three suspects have been housed at the Anderson County Detention Center where they await bond hearings. Janice M. Hampton, Jawanna S. Smith and Preston D. Smith were previously charged with burglary 1st degree.
