Nick Fairley is in trouble again. This time, for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and attempting to elude police. Fairley, the Lions’ first-round pick a year ago, was arrested for the second time in less than two months at 1:13 a.m. Sunday by Alabama State Troopers, the Alabama Department of Public Safety said in a release.
According to the release, Fairley was traveling 100 mph in his 2010 Cadillac Escalade when he passed a police car patrolling westbound Interstate 10. Fairley initially refused to yield to emergency lights and sirens, and "showed signs of impairment" when he eventually stopped, the release said. Lisa Burdett of the Alabama State Troopers said in an email that Fairley, who was arrested on DUI charges and issued traffic citations for reckless driving, no proof of insurance and an open container of alcohol, declined a breathalyzer test.
According to Fox10 in Mobile, Ala., Fairley posted a $1,750 bond and was released shortly after 9 a.m. "We are aware of the reports and are in the process of gathering more information," the Lions said in a statement Sunday. Fairley’s agent, Brian Overstreet, did not return a phone call seeking comment. Fairley was arrested for the first time this off-season April 3 on misdemeanor possession of marijuana after a traffic stop near his home in Mobile. He’s scheduled to be arraigned on that charge July 31.
