WELLFORD SC MAN GOES TO JAIL FOR TRYING TO STEAL WINNING LOTTERY TICKETS

The Wellford Police Department has arrested a man for stealing winning lottery tickets. Officers were called to the PSM convenience store on Sibley Street when a clerk reported that a man had come into the store and tried to cash in a lottery ticket. The clerk discovered that the ticket was determined to be invalid by the lottery commission.

The clerk told officers that the man who was in the story had a pocket full of lottery tickets and left the store on foot. A Wellford officer discovered a man fitting the description walking along Hayne Street and when asked if he had lottery tickets in his pocket the man produced them. The man was identified as Kenneth Rice. Rice told officers he found the tickets at a nearby intersection.

Investigators had SLED check the ID numbers on the tickets and found out that the tickets were stolen from the Li’l Cricket on Old Spartanburg Highway in Wellford. After viewing security video from the Li’l Cricket Rice was placed under arrest. Rice is charged with lottery tampering, petit larceny, and burglary and is in the Spartanburg County Detention Center.
